When alcohol is consumed into the body it is converted to acetaldehyde in the liver. Acetaldehyde is a toxic substance that can be harmful to the body. For the normal drinker, the liver quickly coverts acetaldehyde into a substance called acetic acid. Acetic acid does not have the same toxic or harmful qualities as acetaldehyde. The body then converts acetic acid into carbon dioxide and water which is released through the body�'s urinary and respiratory systems.
According to a study that was conducted by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), alcohol consumption can induce sleep disorders by disrupting the sequence and duration of sleep states and by altering total sleep time as well as the time that is required to fall asleep.
Risks for alcoholism is not destiny; proof of this is that many children of alcoholic parents have not developed alcoholism, and many people with no family history have become alcohol dependent.
