  • The reason a person may experience the warm feeling of skin flushes when drinking is because alcohol dilates the blood vessels that carry the blood just below the surface of the skin; as these capillaries expand due to the presence of alcohol in the bloodstream, the flow of blood is increased.
  • According to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, alcohol is the most frequently used drug by high school aged students, and its use is currently increasing.
  • College students who experience the greatest burden of alcohol-related harms and who have the greatest need for alcohol interventions may be the least likely to participate in alcohol related educational seminars which are currently available at college campuses across the United States.
